We are fundraising on Giving Tuesday to open the Oppenheimer House in the fall of 2022.

The Bathtub Row house that was the home of J. Robert Oppenheimer and his family while he served as director of the Manhattan Project in the 1940s has been given to the Los Alamos Historical Society. Plans are underway to add historical interpretation and include the home in museum tours, with occasional use for special events. The charming living room where the Oppenheimers entertained guests will be an especially great addition to the museum.

The subsequent owners of the house completed upgrades through the years while respecting the historical nature of the home. Nonetheless, we have a list of repairs and renovations to complete in order to prepare the house for the public.

We are seeking a boost in our Oppenheimer House Rehabilitation Plan fundraising efforts on Giving Tuesday, November 30. Phase 1 repair assessments include asbestos removal, surveys and groundwork, foundational structural work, interior repairs, lead paint remediation, drawing for building permits, and electrical, heating, and plumbing upgrades.

Please consider making a contribution to help us complete Phase 1 improvements, which totals more than $600,000, to open the Oppenheimer House to the public next fall.
