$800 towards $500

The house that was the home of J. Robert Oppenheimer and his family while he served as director of the Manhattan Project in the 1940s has been given to the Los Alamos Historical Society. Plans are underway to include the home in museum tours, with added historical interpretation, and occasionally use the house for special events. The charming living room where the Oppenheimers held gatherings will be an especially great addition to Bathtub Row at the museum.

The subsequent owners of the house completed upgrades through the years while respecting the historical nature of the home. Nonetheless we have a list of repairs and renovations to complete in order to prepare the house for the public.

We are seeking a boost in our Oppenheimer House Rehabilitation Plan fundraising efforts for Giving Tuesday, Nov. 30. Phase 1 repair assessments include asbestos removal; surveys and groundwork; foundational structural work; electrical, heating and plumbing upgrades; interior repairs; lead paint remediation and drawing for building permits.

Please make a contribution to help us complete Phase 1 improvements to open the Oppenheimer House to the public next fall. CLICK HERE for a detailed plan with the total expenses for this renovation. Scroll down on our project page to see a 360-degree video of the living room. We have set a funding goal for Giving Tuesday and hope you will help us to reach it.

Please click the donate button. Additionally, if you would prefer to mail a check instead, please mail to: Los Alamos Historical Society, PO Box 43, Los Alamos, NM 87544. Please note contribution is for the Oppenheimer House Renovation Fund/Giving Tuesday effort. You may also deliver a check to us at the museum at any time.

Thank you so much.
